The Great Bear Cafe in Hungry Horse
Glacier National Park
The Great Bear Café in Hungry Horse, located near the West Entrance of Glacier National Park, is a delightful discovery for anyone looking for quality food in a tourist area. Initially skeptical due to its touristy appearance, the café surprised us with its exceptional huckleberry chicken sandwich.
This dish, featuring real huckleberries and well-cooked chicken on a quality bun, stands out as a rare find in an area where many huckleberry-flavored items fail to capture the true flavor. The café’s overall quality and the sandwich’s perfect blend of flavors make it a must-try, especially for those seeking an authentic huckleberry experience.
The Gifford House
Capitol Reef National Park
The Gifford House in Capitol Reef National Park is renowned for its delicious pies, which have become a major attraction. Originally a lesser-known gem, the Gifford House pies are now well-known and highly sought after. Offering a variety of flavors like mixed berry, strawberry rhubarb, peach, cherry, and apple, these pies are celebrated for their quality and taste.
The Gifford House, a historic building in the orchard-rich town of Fruita, operates as a gift shop and a nod to the area’s history. The pies are not full-sized but perfect for sharing between a couple of people. All of our trips to Capitol Reef include daily visits to the Gifford House for pies!
Robert Is Here
Everglades National Park
At “Robert is Here,” a well-known fruit stand near the Homestead Entrance of Everglades National Park in Florida, we always make a point to stop for their amazing guacamole, boiled peanuts, and shakes. But not everything is a win, as we discovered on our last visit when Ash purchased a jar of key lime honey.
We’re usually big fans of key lime, especially when we’re in Miami or the Keys, where key lime pie is a daily purchase. So, when we saw key lime honey at Robert is Here, it seemed like a no-brainer. Excited, we bought a jar and decided to use it on our peanut butter sandwiches. Big mistake. The moment we bit into those sandwiches, we knew something was off. It was one of those tastes that you just can’t get off your tongue fast enough.
So, a little word of advice: key lime honey, especially with peanut butter, is not a good idea. It might sound intriguing, but trust us, it’s a combination that’s better left untried. And definitely don’t sneak it into your Thanksgiving rolls – it’s a surefire way to surprise (and not in a good way) your guests!
