National Park Foods Overview
Join us in this episode as we embark on a culinary journey through America’s breathtaking national parks. We’ll be sharing our top picks for delicious dishes, from savory seafood to mouthwatering hot dogs. Get ready for a gourmet adventure!
South Bay Wild Fish House in Astoria, Oregon
Lewis and Clark National Historic Park
We love finding small parks — especially ones that preserve the story of westward expansion. At the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park in Astoria, Oregon, you can learn more about the history of Lewis and Clark’s epic journey and learn about their winter stay at Fort Clatsop. We especially love talking with interpretive rangers and watching the black powder rifle demonstrations.
Astoria, Oregon is a charming town where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. In addition to visiting the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park, you can enjoy picturesque waterfront views and a scenic river walk. The South Bay Wild Fish House is near the river walk and is a family favorite. This restaurant serves up delicious, freshly caught seafood — it’s probably my favorite seafood restaurant in the country!
Sonoran Hot Dogs in Tucson, Arizona
Saguaro National Park
As you travel between the east and west districts of Saguaro National Park, you’ll drive through the city of Tucson, Arizona, where you can dive into the unique culinary world of Sonoran hot dogs! We declare that your experience at Saguaro National Park isn’t complete without trying a Sonoran hot dog, which is a hot dog that is bacon-wrapped, and topped with pinto beans, tomatoes, and onions. Savor the smoky and spicy notes on a sweet roll, drizzled with mayo sauce and mustard.
Our top recommendations: El Sinaloense, El Guero Canelo, and BK Tacos. We have tried many different places, but those are our favorites!
The Apple House in Linden, Virginia
Shenandoah National Park
As you explore the northern end of Shenandoah National Park, take a short detour into nearby Linden, Virginia, to visit the Apple House, a renowned haven for apple-inspired treats.
The Apple House’s signature apple butter cinnamon donuts are famous throughout this area of Virginia, and people travel far and wide to enjoy the many apple-flavored goodies they sell here. The store is incredibly charming, and I love the vibe here, but honestly, the donuts just don’t have enough of an apple taste for me to completely fall in love with them.
